Hi everyone,
I was just wondering whether anyone could help me. I have a problem with my seat Ibiza 1.2 PETROL MANUAL. Whilst I change gears when I drive, the revs seem to shoot up for a couple of seconds and then comes back down on revs. It does not consistently. Any suggestions as to what it could be ?

Do the revs shoot up when you put your foot on the clutch to change gear or as you bring your foot up to re-engage drive? Does the clutch slip at all?

Thank you Silly questions first: Does the car idle normally when not moving? Does the throttle pedal move smoothly and isn't sticking. When you say "shoot up", are we talking going from 2,000 RPM to 4-5,000 or something lower?

if it has a clutch switch it sounds like it may need adjusting a foot slipping off the clutch pedal is often the reason why a switch goes out of adjustment

How long have you had this car? No disrespect, but I think the problem could be how you operate the pedals. I had a similar problem some years ago with (I think) a Nissan. After a few weeks I got used to the car and the problem went away.
Try wearing different shoes when you drive the car.

Hi there, I have had the car now for the 3 and a half years....there is definitely a problem with the rpms increasing whilst changing gear.It happens when i am changing gear and my foot is on the clutch and off the accelerator.

As Steve says above, this definitely sounds like a faulty clutch position input sensor (switch), or could possilby be a sticking idle-control on the throttle.
The former is going to need someone with a scantool capable of measuring the live data over the manufacturer's datastream to see what is happening for sure.
The latter may just need a careful clean-up of the throttle-body with some solvents to ungum it.
EDIT : I forgot to ask what year this car is, and maybe an engine code off the VIN-plate? I have had loads of experience with these in old age with vacuum leaks at the manifold, but when I say "old age" I mean 1999 ancient.

What about recording the sound while driving and let us hear what is happening while going through the gear. I could be way off the mark here but if the engine revs increase when you let the clutch pedal up and then simultaneously depressing the accelerator pedal, then I'd suspect the clutch slipping as power is applied, but again without seeing/hearing the evidence I could be a million miles off target

Hello All,
I have attached an audio file of the fault, if you listen to the audio very carefully you will be able to hear the revs increase when changing gear. This does not happen consistently.
