There's been a Cav SRi parked in our street for the last few days. Welcome Hi Joe. There are still quite a few around this way, mostly the same colour as mine for some strange reason, oh and one Burgundy td. Not seen an SRI for donkeys years though.

I'm only a diy mechanic. Always had a knack for fixing things when I was younger. Always had to take things apart to find out how they work, used to drive my old man nuts taking my bike apart. Remember the old Raleigh chopper with the 3 speed shifter and the Sturmey Archer hub. It had a little cap on it for topping up with oil. I used to fill that damn thing up with the old mans red oil can full of Castrol GTX. There'd be oil all over the place, all over the floor in the shed and all down the path. I used to strip the hubs down and grease the bearing races up and I was only 11/12 years old. My dad was a maintenance fitter all his life so I learned a lot from him. I knew how to drill and tap a hole when I was 14. Did car mechanics in school but most of the lads used to just mess around. Left school and went straight into and electrical apprenticeship, £45 I think i started on in 1988. Our training instructor was a right stickler for accuracy. If you were turning something down on the lathe he'd be there over your shoulder shouting about thousands of an inch and if you couldn't work it out in your head you were fooked. Engineers blue, does anyone still use that? Couldn't be arsed with the collage part, just wanted to work and earn to get a car and girls I got my HNC though. Worked in the same place until redundancy in 95 and then started on photocopiers and printers for 10 years. Great job, women in the offices, sixth form colleges I could tell you some stories Anyway got fed up with that, too much driving. Now I'm back overhauling industrial circuit breakers. You know when I started my apprenticeship there were lads there who didn't know how to undo nuts and bolts, some didn't know clockwise from anti-clockwise and some of them are managers now. My second car was a mk2 cavalier gls in pea green and showing off in the local car park I spun off down the road in first, missed the clutch and stripped second gear. I bought a new gear from the dealers and took the box apart. My old man said you'll never get that back together again. By the time he came home from work 10pm it was all back together and working. Never been afraid of working on cars since then. Anyway I was board and I've been around for a while so I thought I'd tell you a little about myself
