Had a mate ring me yesterday. And from what he described on the phone sounds like head gasket has gone.
I'm going to look at it later for him.
Just wondering if any of you have done one if these and what sort of price you charged?
It's a 2002 1.2 8v

Its a steady job but do it on firm written terms, don't under quote for any head work just in case it needs a skim, valve work, new head, dismantling breakages ect, have a look here: www.fiatforum.com/cinquecento-seicento-guides/136702-cylinder-head-gasket-remove-refit.htmlCheck the ecu earth on the rear of the block, that gets torn about as they try to drive through the constant misfire, in fact check it first, they may confuse the symptoms with hg failure.

Just remembered a few instances........have a look round it, first thought of Punto owners is HG failure, check coils/ ignition/ earth as well, they can mistake one symptom for the other.
Edit: Don't forget coolant/ pump/ rad if its over heating.

Cheers mate.
Already told him it'll need checking and skimming.
He said its had instances of cutting out. and then other day it overheated.
I said too him it maybe two separate faults. I've heard of bad earths from gearbox aswel.
Was going to go have a good look round it an just check its not air locked.
He asked me yesterday on phone when he got home from it overheating what a price would be. I said without pricing bits up. Looking at, at least 350 and that would be as a mates rates on labour

Having just got back from their. I can see quite easy job. And having quick scan on net seems like parts are cheap as chips. It had a rather large air lock and he said the age old thing of he's getting rid this week. Needed oil aswel only just visible on dipstick. Told him get some oil tomorrow and take it out see if its any better. Didn't cut out in 40 mins I was their chatting to him. All seemed ok. Once cleared air lock. Apart from rocker gasket Is peeing oil everywhere. What a crap idea not to fit a temp gauge aswel. The problem I've got doing it for him is engine place isn't opening weekends. Think it's do able 200 quid all in? If I do parts at what ever price I can get them for?

I did a slightly older Punto a while back, and had the head off in 30minutes Make sure you fit the new head gasket the right way up! Easy to get it wrong and it blocks off the oil feed to the head

Used to be a favourite fiddle for my techies @ Fiat. They'd have the head off in their lunch break (car parked behind workshop), have the head back the following day, having been skimmed, and then refitted during lunch and tea breaks

Well he's been out in it.
Done about 15 miles and cars not cutting out an heating in car is now working. And no signs of over heating.
See how it goes running rest of the week.

Punto's are not easy to bleed if you are not used to them. Brief hard acceleration and braking usually dislodges the air that's locked and is the most difficult to bleed. If it's not overheating and no smell of combustion gases when you open the rad when it's cold then you might be ok. Also, most blow on the water jacket beside No.1 cylinder. Remove that plug and if it looks like it's been steam cleaned then its usually gasket replacement time. Apart from HG's, they're one great little engine

your right leew,i always found that the usual way of getting airlock out i.e with blower on full blast doesn't work with puntos, seem to go better with blower off and a good run around the block
