As previously mentioned I've recently bought a 2010 Focus, however it has a couple of bits of paint damage that I want to sort out, mainly a scuff on the back bumper and a dent/large stonechip on the bonnet.
The bonnet will probably need sorting professionally (its a pretty nasty dent) but the Bumper seems ok and just needs the chipped paint re-doing, so I was thinking of getting a touch-up pen/paint type thing for that.
So
Do the Halfords primer/colour/lacquer paint pen kits match OE paint well or should I pay the extra and get a Ford OE touch up pen?

How much would Chips Away or local dent repair man/person cost to come to you and do it? They may be able to pull the dent out? In my eperience touch up pens don't seem to work for me. I leave it to the Professional paint people. Ex Sex Pistols.

It either sits deep in the hollow of a stone chip or sticks out like a blob. Colour match seems quite variable and a lot of it just pot luck - you'd think OEM would be best but remember it's not the same type of paint the car had initially (probably 2k which you can't obviously do as a touch up pen). If you do find a good match then sometimes a tiny airbrush is a good way to do it (this is what I do) as you can feather the edges well so it blends in - but you're rapidly into proper spraying territory.

The halfords kits come with both the "pen" type applicator as well as a nail varnish brush type setup, though as you say its not easy to get an even coat.

Rhyds I think their is one in Chester and one IIRC in or around Llandudno Junction which is roughly an hour or so from you.

Thought it was all water based now? Yes, it probably all is now. Not sure about 2010 - it could well be I suppose. "And this week on watercolour challenge we've got something a little different..."

In the past - when I could be arsed.... I preferred to spray paint inside the cans cap and allow the thinners to evaporate until the viscosity was correct to brush on.

Personally I'd go to a automotive paint supplier who uses a spectrometer...That way they will match what is on the car and make an exact match

To be fair leaving it to the pros is probably best. The bonnet in particular needs careful attention

The bonnet, bit of touch up and a good mopping will lose that...The bumper will need painting proper...Any good smart repairers near to you?
