Is it just the 1.8 TDCI with the belt in oil setup? Luckily mine is an early one, but I may well be replacing the galaxy with a newer one in the not too distant future and wouldn't mind knowing which engine to go for l? 1.8 Lynx engine was discontinued around 2010/11

Boarder line now as to wether it's a variable repair.
A new engine would cost more than car is worth
Would need to find a good s/h plus all the gaskets, injector pipes, fluids, new belts chains etc... Could also easily come in over budget
That £750 for the belts seems very cheap now in comparison

Only way would be to sling a used knacker straight in with no warranty provided

We've got one in now that had the upper dry belt changed, month later car stopped so recocered to us. Wet belt stripped its teeth and done some serious engine damage.
Took head of and all exhaust valves are bent and 3 pistons are beyond it. 2nd hand lump £1000 + labour. The dilemma is what do you do about changing the belts on a used lump as this adds another £250-£300 on top.

If they refuse then your covered!
