Bought an outside light today and where i want to fit it on wall is where my old extractor fan comes out,so i was going to run cable through the cored hole and connect to the extractors old wiring but it has no earth and my new light has ,what can i do to ground the light apart from running a long length of earth wire which will be ugly running around the kitchen,no way to hide it.

If the body of the light is metal it needs to be earthed IMO. Is there anything nearby that has an earth? in the ceiling?

No nothing nearby,i would need to core/drill another hole to get to an earthed supply but it wouldn't be pretty inside,i would need to run surface trunking, will give it some more thought on how to go about it.

If its a cavity wall you may be able to run the wiring inside the cavity?

The extractor might not have been earthed. But, in the mounting box for the switch/supply if its a metal box it should have been earthed.
You could join to that?

Yes your right but the switch is 10 feet away on another wall(don't ask?) and all cables are hidden in the wall, done years ago, extractor hasn't been used for a long time, hence i would need to use surface mounted conduit, which is what i did in the end, there was no other way, done now, thanks for the help
