The other night (Wednesday) I was backing on my drive and aware of a young chap looking at my Cossie. I got out of my ST locked it and the young chap approached me. Conversation goes something like this. Young chap.... Hello I believe your Cossie is for sale. Me.... Yes Young chap.... Would you sell it to me. Me.... NO. Young chap.... Why? Me.... How old are you? Young Chap.... 21 Me.... How long you been driving? Young chap.... Four years. Me.... Licence clean? Young chap.... Yes. (Which I didn't believe) Me.... 1)You won't get it insured and if anybody did insure you (which I doubt anybody would) I wouldn't sell it to you as it would IMO be ethically wrong. Didn't ever go any further about money for my Cossie as IMO it would be morally wrong to sell any car of this type to any young chap. I explained when I was of a similar age I wanted a MK1 Lotus Cortina and I was in a similar situation. It’s a performance car of its age, a modern remapped diesel hatch will murder it Yes I know they will. That wasn't my main point which is I wouldn't sell any performance car to any person of that age male or female because they are inexperienced.

My Dad had a S1 Escort Rs turbo pushing approx 180bhp when I was 20/21 I was a named driver. It used to keep up with cossies no problem.

An old Sapphire Cossie might be outdragged by a remapped diesel, but the diesel will also be pretty much idiot proof with traction control, EBD and what have you. An 80s Cosworth has ABS at best!

He was a powerful car delivery driver? No far from it. Anybody want a clue? One or two members might know what my Father did for a living.

I was going to suggest "Car Thief", so I wasn't that far out! I was making assumptions about where your Father lived, but I guess that's a stereotype that the Scousers can do without.

I'm not Scouse nor was Dad. I was born Darn Sarf even though Mum and Dad are Northerners and I class myself as one having lived hear as long as I can remember.

That time of year again to re-new my Classic Car Policy. I've got a very competive quote this year off my Broker who informed me a while back he can Insure Classic Cars. So I am waiting to see if my current Insurance provider can beat it. It's now four years ago (on Thursday)since I bought it and travelled down to Rhubarb land to pick it up. I've upped the agreed valuation this year.

I've upped the agreed valuation this year. Watch the small print. Over the decades before I cancelled my fleet Classic policy (originally AON in the Brum area, think it is now Footman James?) I realised that general brokers will promise the earth, but the only guys and girls that understand the "needs" of a seriously-mad classic car owner are the pukka specialists. Which is why I am going straight back to one of the classic-car firms in the back of Practical Classics next year to get my fleet policy up-and-running again. I have decided that life is passing my by, and I want to get one or two of my own classics back on the road again. It's been too long....

I've known my Broker for 25-30 years. I've taken out a Policy with him and my excess is only £100 instead of £250.
