I love them, keeps me busy welding..
Fords and rust you mean? All designed to rot away within 10 years, otherwise they wouldn't sell any new ones.

My old white 54 plate swb had rust stains on the paintwork when it was delivered new. 4 years old it needed welding for the test
Blue 52 plate mwb sat on my drive has rust along the front of the bonnet, but otherwise seems quite good. Maybe something to do with the colour?

A guy at work tried to tell me his p reg transit (in blue) had no rust, I told him that rust free transits don't exist. I was right too you can see the rust on it from a mile off, you can see where someone has riveted a strip of metal over the rotten rear doors and the archs are full of filler that hasn't even been rubbed down!

i look after a companys fleet of vans. 10 years ago he had 3 berlingo's one dispatch a transit and one relay. hes since had reno masters, iveco daileys a reno kangoo and vauxhall combo. now he has 5 transits 2 ldv and two merc sprinters oh and the oldest is now the 54 plate reno master with over 200k and still on its original six speed box. all his vans have their original engines boxes and turbos except the 05 plate transit which had a second hand engine in april last year but still has the original box and turbo. hes gona stick by the tranist cos overall they are best, six speed and reliable enough. the mercs are both 09 plates and have given problems already. the reno has been the best and only needed a clutch and pas pump, suspension ball joints and alt and battery. the price of a duall mass + clutch on his six speed tranist made him cry as did the cost of replacing front pads and discs with bearings and rear pads and discs!!! before he got rid of it the combo was the worst van in the fleet,a petrol 1.6 lpg it was exempt from congestion charges it needed(from what i remember)a full engine rebuild a recon gearbox+ linkages new rad twice genuine vox lasted a month!!! and lots of other things that i cant remember. it also used to get through a clutch every 3 months but that was the driver!! he will only buy transits from now on even tho he could get two ldv for the price of one transit. oh and all the vans are lwb high roof with refridgeration units,a couple are freezer vans!!!!

This is why i haven't owned a Ford for 17 years, they need to understand galvanising. They make some decent motors but they rot like fook, just not acceptable nowadays.
