Some of the FORD techs on here may recall my post on my 1.6 TI-VCT 125 ps Ford focus seeminlgy being underpowered, after going into dealers, and listening to the experience of you learned chaps I settled with the answer "thats how they are"..........No problem can live with it now I know there is no engine problem, The dealer "said" there is no PCM update for the car and I do trust them as they are a good old fashioned family dealership with many many years dealing with FORDS........However from a FORD forum I was reading apost about a similar issue, where a guy took HIS TiVCT Focus into his dealers and got a PCM update and the car has really improved, and he posted the details on the forum of his actual PCM details.... HIS DETAILS .. HW: BM5T-14C226-AE APP: BM5T-14C026-AS NVM: EEPROM 20.205 MY EXISTING DETAILS (similar but end numbers are different) HW: BM5T-14C226-AC APP: BM5T-14C026-AJ NVM: EEPROM 17.D9 BUT the major question is.... this chap lives in Austrailia , so im guessing that the difference in PCM details are for GEOGRAPHICAL differences, ie what climates the car is driven in etc etc , taking into account that the intake AIR tempreture,AC always on etc etc Am I right in thinking this or is it worth asking the dealer again....

id say try a different dealer! i cant see cars in austrailia being mapped differently. all cars have sensors for heat/altitude/air density ect.

Ids is updated nearly everyday, so one vehicle update at date a , could be different to data b update
If symptom based diagnostic offered no PCM update for the symptom then they wouldn't try to input a later calibration ( plus you wouldn't get payed for it)
And a later updates can lead to different faults
P.s I can't see your PCM calibration from the figures you've given?

As I say MR B I know nothing mate, its just what this bloke on TALKFORD posted, these figures are all he posted and they were gained from the Dashborad test thingy.. As Im happy with the car, im going to wait till service time in 2 months then ask again and if they say no update again so be it, touchwood the car is so much better than our last 07 focus, The TiVCT isnt the quietest at idle but apparentley and again as you did tell me, its the nature of the VCT principle......
As ever chaps thanks for the advice!!!!

If its very low powered under heavy load i would be looking at knock control and lean fueling condition, is the engine harsh under heavy load ?

As I say im sure its the nature of the engine, you guys did tell me they need to be worked harder through the gears, its no big issue for me really as I have lived with it now for nearly a year, its not drastically underpowered, just needs dropping a cog on inclines sometimes, but other than that its a great car, and I have faith in this ford dealer, so I accept his answers and of course what you guys tell me.......but thanks for the replys

asked to check for an update at last service, and there was one, ( i knew there was as that ETIS online check said so, but I didnt mention it as I didnt want to be even more of a smartarse ) the dealer did the update, and now the car is totally different. So much better to drive, and the torque delivery is spread out more across the rev range if that makes any sense. ie it pulls so much better at the lower RPMS.
