He's taking a gamble IMO and he's only done it to try an overturn the lead by Labour at present to try and win the General Election in early 2025.

EVs have snob value and they've jumped on the bandwagon in their hoards. We won't have the structure for a long time and in truth rural areas don't need them. Gas and electric doubled, food +30%, now insurance is rocketing, how does the working man afford an ev and if they can't how do they get to work to pay taxes?

Insurance - my landlord policies gone up 41.6% My motortrade combined policy is up 18.4% (but I got a lot less cover on renewal). So I paid more for less... Not sure about my home insurance in not due yet. -------- I spent ages ringing brokers and got nowhere - half of them just wanted to know what my renewal premiums were - indicated they would not earn enough out of the job and did not quote.

I agree the infrastructure for EV's is no where enough and I doubt it will be in 2035.IT can only be sustained if charging demand is met by accessible and affordable infrastructure and I have my doubts it ever will. I don't give a flying f*ck as in 2035 I'll be 81 then so I may not be here then.

The big gamble is within his own party; sounds like quite a few of the Tories want to file a letter of "no confidence" if he tries to go ahead with this change.
Good luck to him - IMHO he should have public support, and the 5th-columnists within his own party should be ejected to find a new home with the Green Party, and other such Marxist institutions.....

The article referenced here makes note of the amount of water needed to "put a Tesla out" from a thermal runaway. I did a quick calculation : 40,000 gallons of water is approximately 180tonnes, give or take the odd rounding-error. Unless you have a standpipe set-up and running pretty quickly, you are going to need 18 appliances on-hand to put that single car out (I'm estimating First-Aid water on-board is around 10tonnes these days, might be less).
In other words, all you can do is shove a fire-blanket over the top, let it burn.

So what you saying is: Apart from investing in a network of chargers - we need to invest in a better network of standpipes for fireman?

It was only a diesel fire, but watch the last couple of minutes (after the appliance arrives) and take note of the struggle that the driver is having with the standpipe!

We do some work with the fire service and they say that there are no fire hydrants on motorways and an appliance carries about 1800 gallons, as for a fire blanket we have one and it's minimum 2 person it's so heavy to use, and would you be willing to use it when the gasses expelled are sort of fatal.
