I am 68 it was around the time just after my birthday last September I was diagnosed with this tumour. It's a very long story which I won't bore you with but I was told it's 90% it's a cancerous tumour from experience of the Specialists. I was not at all comfortable with what I was being told so I challenged their decision and got a different outcome to what I was initially being offered which was to remove my right kidney it's called a nephrectomy. What I had in the end was Robotic-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. I've still got the six page booklet the surgeon gave me when I went to see him a couple of weeks before Xmas. It's very very high tec and complex look it up on Youtube if you are interested in a career as a surgeon. Only joking Pete. I really do wish you a speedy recovery. My Grandad gave-up smoking after a big heart-attack in his early 60's - cardiologist said "That's your first and last warning" He never looked back after that, stronger and fitter than he had been for the previous 40years. What finally killed him was.....a tumour on his kidney, crushed his spinal column and paralysed him from the chest down. It was all missed in those days (NHS in the 1990's) and he died 8days later. Went out like a Catherine-Wheel though....... I know your only joking. When my initial tumour was diagnosed the terminology the Hospital staff used is lesion not tumour and from my initial CT scan that picked this problem up I was told that they can't tell if it's benign or malignant but from their experience it's 90% usually malignant. It took me a while to get my head round what I was being told but I wasn't comfortable one bit at what I was being told hence me challenging their decision. When my Grandaughter's found out Grandad had to have a serious operation of them asked their Mum "Is Grandad going to die" I don't regard myself as an emotional bloke but I'm not afraid to admit it did bring a tear to my eye. Thankfully I'm one of the one in ten lol.

Well it will be eight weeks come this Wednesday (12th April) and the old Nobbs is nearly back to normal as I can be. My six scars have all healed as would be expected but they are visible four small ones and two larger ones. I'm still off the bacca but the cravings still keeps coming which I am dealing with. I'm now able do drive with no pain or discomfort and driven locally mostly this last few days or so. Me and the Mrs went further afield this afternoon for a leisurely drive and walk for some fresh air but kept away from the Motorway network lol. I'm still being careful with lifting and how much I do like gardening etc but doing a bit at a time and my neighbours helped out quite a bit with moving heavy stuff etc. I've still not received my follow up appointment for a CT scan I was told would happen. I'll ring up on Tuesday/Wednesday to see what's what.

It's been ten weeks yesterday since my major operation and I'm back to myself. I lost a stone initially after the surgery over about 6-8 weeks due to not having much of an appetite for the first couple of weeks and stress on my body to recover. I've put about 4lbs back on so in the last 2-3 weeks. I'm on the up. I've got an appointment to go back to the Hospital where I had my operation on Monday 12th June in the afternoon. I've been driving now pain and discomfort free for about three weeks and I even tackled the garden yesterday whilst the weather was good.

I've been back to the Hospital today that did my operation in February of this year. I didn't see the surgeon but one of his colleagues and I've been given the all clear but they have taken some blood off me just to double check my kidney function is ok.

After my appointment last Monday at the Hospital I had my operation they have sent me my blood test results and all appears good. I've a lot more energy now and feeling stronger than I have for quite some time. I will get a follow up CT scan next February and a follow up phone appointment with the Surgeon. I understand I will be checked once a year for the next five years.

Well it's 12 months today since I had my operation and I have been back to the hospital for a CT scan. I'll be going back every year now for the next five years even though the tumour that was removed from my right kidney was benign. Bad crash on the M53 coming home on the opposite carriageway it looked bad.
