They use so little air - any compressor would be OK. I not used mine very much - if you were closer you could borrow mine.

The one you linked looks like it has an internal air pump.

The one you linked looks like it has an internal air pump. Yes it does - this was the buying error that I made!Mate has one - cheaper version with no air pump and it works OK on very little compressed air. Learn by my mistakes....--------- I doubt I have used mine five times since I bought it!

Anyone with you at work smoke cigarettes? What about the ‘special smoke matches’ used by gas installers ? They are used for testing air flow in flues…. Much cheaper than a smoke machine…

I have a home made smoke machine and use it quite a bit. It's simply an old ammo box with a coil of wire around a gauze inside. Baby oil on the gauze and 12V from an old battery across the coil. I have a compressed air fitting and a pressure regulator screwed into one side and an outlet hose on the other. It produces lots of smoke and has been utterly reliable. Only cost me a few quid as I already had the ammo box

I've often thought of making a leak detector from an old hairdryer......

I bought one of the 'Autool' ones about five years ago - it's still working! Quite often it pays to have the ability to put a bit of pressure in, these Chinesium ones tend to work on high-ish volume but low pressure. Don't be fooled by the gauge, you'll see next to no pressure on it, even on a sealed system, I modified mine with a T piece, regulator & gate valve so that I can add extra air pressure (capped at 2 bar) after the internal pump, it's identified a few leaks that were problematic otherwise.
Be prepared to get a couple of spare inflatable bags for plugging exhausts etc. - also watch out for sharp edges, sensors etc. the inflatable bags are not especially robust but having to replace two in five years isn't too bad I suppose...
You could say that my employers should provide them, which is true, but you need them to be maintained and used with respect for them to keep working, that'd never happen with a 'workshop' one.
This is the one I bought, it was much cheaper at the time, £130 from memory

Seen one made out of a old spray gun, just had a old glow plug and a pressure reg, did the job.
