A far bit of tinkering the last few days. Cleaned and balanced carbs, drained fuel tank, removed fuel taps and filters, new plugs, went through the wiring loom on the engine side cleaning all contacts, fitted a new battery.. Everything works as it should and rides well... I have one problem, it won't rev under load over 4500rpm, so I've ordered new HT leads and caps as they are ancient.. Valve clearances need doing but I'm going to get a few miles on it first. Mot tomorrow morning

Good luck with MOT.
For the revving issue, if it’s not obviously missing or misfiring, my money would be on carbs. Assuming it has the usual carbs with rubber diaphragms- bit like the old Strombergs- they go porous and then the vacuum can’t pull the sliders up properly.

Thankyou Yep it's got the Bing carbs, contstant depression with the diaphragms...I've changed a slide one side as it was sticking.. It'll rev out in neutral, just not under load Although it was mot'd until 2 years ago, it's only done 50 miles in the last 7 years..So I'm having to go right through it one bit at a time.

ultrasonic clean on the carbs & jets & fuel filter change would probably be my starting point, while the filter was off make sure fuel flows plentifully from the tank on both sides just in cast the pickup is restricted timing as well, need a good old fashioned strobe

And she's mot'd with no advisories, he even changed a blown tail light bulb FOC And gave me some advice on the revs problem, he thinks it's blocked emulsification tubes in the carbs.

I'm not familiar with Bing carbs, but it's a rare thing to need emulsification on a sliding needle/jet set-up.

I'm not familiar with Bing carbs, but it's a rare thing to need emulsification on a sliding needle/jet set-up. They are very small tube with 4 holes. It's a brass fitting that pushes out. Easily overlooked. I've removed and cleaned the ones on my spare set of carbs. Just waiting on my new ht leads. Will fit those first before touching the carbs

After countless times of cleaning the carbs and chucking Redex through it I found the problem.
The float needles were sticking.
I've now made one decent set of carbs out of two and she's running well.

Black Forest & Harz mountain range are very popular, garmisch partenkirchen is the place bmw take over for a week or so most years To showcase bikes & cars, never been there myself, but it’s on the list as is One of the concentration camps To pay my respects & the Eagles Lair out of curiosity. France recently lowered its speed limit which makes it a bit less popular.

Watched a Henry Cole programme a few weeks back. He did a run down through Germany. The Castle route looked a good one

YouTube wildbad touring, teapotone & the missenden flyer amongst others for some really good inspirational touring ideas, I should’ve gone to northern Spain (Picos de europas) on Friday to take part in the colombres rally on a 1984 kawasaki z750 I’d started restoring (has to be pre 1989), but as with most international trips this year that’s gone by the wayside in favour of continued personal health & general well-being 😂
next year🤞
