Hi all,
Got a bit of a problem with my car, which I hope you can help me resolve. The problem began last Friday after I had the car jacked up by a local tyre fitter. As soon as the car was put down, it began making an almighty noise, which sounded like a rubbing/tapping sound and as if a bearing had gone. After taking it to a garage, I was informed that both from wheel bearings had worn out, the car required tracking and that the lower ball joint required replacing. I was also informed that the driver's side brake caliper had also seized up and that both rear bearings were 'on the way out' but were not noticeable enough to require replacement. All this work was carried out, however after getting the car back I have noticed that it is still making more or less the same noise as when I took it in on Friday.
After taking the car back to the mechanic, he suggested that one of the tyres on the rear, which was fitted recently and is part worn, was potentially causing the noise as it was 'cheap and nasty'. He suggested that I try another one and see how it goes. I am aiming to get a replacement on Tuesday, however I am obviously concerned that I am spending good money after bad and that I would like to resolve the problem sooner rather than later. As such, any suggestions would be appreciated.
The car is a 1993 Peugeot 106, petrol engine (1.1) with 166,000 miles on it.

Trying to be cheap will cost more in the end, buy decent new tyres it's your own safety ffs! Things you should never be stingy on are tyres and brakes

Got a bit of a problem with my carI should say! The problem began last Friday after I had the car jacked up by a local tyre fitter. As soon as the car was put down, it began making an almighty noise, after getting the car back I have noticed that it is still making more or less the same noise as when I took it in on Friday. So what is the history here? The car made no noise before Friday, or was making some noise, then got a lot worse after it was jacked, then got better after it was fixed for the things you mentioned above, but is still making a low-level noise? I'm utterly confused by the timeline here.... but it sounds like your problems started when it was jacked by the tyre-fitter? In which case, it would be useful to know by what method he jacked this car, which is probably getting abit old and fragile around the subframe and engine mounts by now.....
