I think I need to get some better tyres on it after todays session on the way back from ford day (slight diversion) Boost on wet roads in 2nd & 3rd forget it. All in all tho its absolutely awesome, I can honestly say I've never driven anything quicker. A bit twitchy in the wet then. What tyres and size are on it now? 185/60 HR14. Michelin, Uniroyal depending on the size and preference.

Mr Benz is correct.
Its on 195/50v15 got yokohama's on the front, bridgestones on the rear.
I think I might get a set of toyo R1R tyres for next years fun. (road legal track day tyres)

Well the gearbox doesn't appear to be enjoying the massive power increase its having to transmit. Pretty sure I can hear a whine in second, 3rd gear is becoming a bit tricky to obtain at times, then there's the issue with the diff. So I'm debating throwing a mk5/6 escort diesel van (IB5) gearbox in to see how it goes. I think ultimately I'm gonna have to go to a mtx75 variant gearbox, either mondeo, focus or maybe even a focus RS mk1 gearbox. All of which will require significant modification and parts upgrades.

A little update on the old money pit for you guys, Its been to the mappers for a week to sort out the cold start and idle valve, while it was there he tweaked the light load areas of the maps and it drives even better, I thought it was fine before. It starts and idle's from cold like any factory built car now. Current gearbox is hanging in there at the minute. Now running a full set of toyo r1r road legal track day tyres. Suspension has had a lift too, its a -35mm drop now rather than the estimated -60mm it was before. Its a much better ride, esp after I've set the alignment up on a hunter machine. We took the car to santapod to the classic ford show at the start of the month, 390miles round trip loaded with camping equipment and the wife and it used no more than £80 of super unleaded. Which I'm very happy with. A little picture a mate snapped on the M6 on the way. I'm now getting into detailing the car myself so hopefully will get it even cleaner.

Today I've purchased a mtx75 gearbox ready to start collecting the rest of the parts to convert to using this gearbox, much stronger, much more money. Mate of mine has a mk2 mondeo he is whipping the engine from, I can get the driveshafts off him, also the flywheel. So after that I need the driveshafts fabricating, custom mountings, change to cable gear selector, convert to hydraulic clutch and run a focus rs mk1 clutch.

Well as some of you know I had so me difficultys on the way to ford fair, I know I have to get the head off and see whats what, Bit wet in No 4 exhaust port. You can see where the gasket has blown between the fire ring and the water jacket, which is what I expected to find. So now the plan is, head pressure tested and skimmed, new head gasket and the block faced, so it looks like a strip down of the bottom end, which means a load of other bits, so I better get the engine right out now lol.

I gave it a bit of pasty and it got a bit hot, it often did, but this time it got a bit hotter.
I'm thinking it was a build error on my part, I should have had the block decked at time of the build. I've never had anything to do with a mls head gasket before, but I've learned that they require a certain level of finish.
Do garages have blocks faced when replacing head gaskets etc on focus and mondeo black tops etc?

Have you run a straight edge across block face ?
Cylinder head was new wasn't it ?
