It's a job an d I y can tackle if you go about it with the right precautions Alłow a few minutes for rail pressure to drop ( if your sure go for a cup of tea ) Cleanliness is vital for fuel repairs , so any openings really need to be sealed Yes you'll need a new cooper seal, and high pressure fuel pipe. There only meant to be 1 time use And shouldn't be reused (though you'd be surprised the number of garages who over see this ) Technically the bolt should be replaced to. And I'd also change the leak of pipe seal if it looks anything but perfect (these can often leak after being disturbed) Be careful not to lose the retaining spring to , they can ping off into the darkness Oh and don't put a wire bush or attempt to clean the injector tip . At most clean around the injector body The injector maybe tight to remove , but access is good on these and lucky don't seize in place like other engines mostly because it's an cast iron block. I will look up the torque for the bolt

many thanks for the help again karl, does the black tar make it much more dificult to remove and is it best to do the job with the engine hot or cool? Not sure if warm or cold will make a difference Yes the black carbon can make it more difficult to remove. Try soaking with some maintance spray/carb/egr type cleaner or Coca cola !! For big builds you'll need to chip away at it with a screwdriver etc...

Wouldn't worry about having to recut injector seat. You'd have the head off ideally anyway if you where doing that ...
We use a special tube with a wire bush head to clean the seat, as you won't a clean rag and screwdriver should do the trick
Yes forgot can be a bitch to bleed.
Can't picture the pump return pipe on these , but as it's just the one injector your doing you may well just get away with out bleeding

Done the job today took a couple of hours as i took it easy. Little trouble getting the old washer out the head so pushed a hex bit into it to get it out. Leaknoff retaining clip sprung into the abiss but i had a spare.all in all not a bad job and touch wood seems like it has sealed. Thanks for the tips karl.

Hello, I have the same problem ... 1,8tdci focus 2008 and black tar and fumes inside.... Today, I desmantled the black plastic connector on the top of the injector, than I unscrewed upper part of the injector because it seemed, the problem is there, but I didnt find there any seal... I have screw it back but it leaks allmost more... What to do now? Do I need to remove whole injector and change the copper seal underneath? What was the black tar before? seal??? thanks in advance Lubo

You should have removed the complete injector, there's a copper washer at the bottom.. The injector seat will need re-cutting and then a new washer installed. The black tar is soot/carbon blowing by the copper seal/seat..

Thank you for advice. I think It will be better to visit some profesionals... May I drive the car with this problem without further damage?

Thank you for advice. I think It will be better to visit some profesionals... May I drive the car with this problem without further damage? Hard to say, depends on how badly it's leaking and how far you need to travel HARD TO SAY! The following words: Come to mind! Fire! Hydraulic! Dropped nozzle! Fire: I have seen two burnt out cars after service work at other garages to high pressure diesel system pipework. Hydraulic: I have read a report where a AA man removed the injector drive plug to diagnose a misfire and subsequently filled the cylinder up and bent a conrod. Dropped nozzle: Local Ford main dealer put a new injector in a three month old car under warranty, took it for a test drive and the injector nozzle went thru the piston.
