Quick question, I'm going to look at a 2002 Passat tomorrow.
It's advertised as a TDI PD 130 but the in the advert it states this:
I guess he means he took it through a deep puddle!
Anyway would the Skoda engine be identical or are there any differences to note?
I don't want to be in that situation when trying to do maintenance and never getting the right parts because of it.
I have a Mk4 Golf TDI PD 130 already so I know a bit about the Golf version.

Mileage is currently 196,852. At 187k I inadvertently tested the cars wading capabilities resulting in several bent con rods and a very knackered engine. I sourced and had fitted an engine from a Skoda Superb automatic that had 89k, at the same time the cambelt and water pump was changed along with full service using the correct grade of oil. So this engine has approx 100k on it. It sounds and goes very well, I regulalrly see 45-50mpg even with my slightly heavy right foot. 50-55mpg is achievable if driven steady on a run.

Look for stains inside does it smell or smell to nice. 
The first generation of the modern Superb produced from 2001 to 2008 was based on the B5 platform of the Volkswagen Passat.
