Asking about one of these on behalf of a friend as he is considering one due to their keen prices. Are they better than the Laguna II or is it more of the same sh!te?

I've always found the 1.5 dci engine incompatible for the size of the car compared to the 2 litre diesel engine which IMO suits the car much better. Having said that the 1.5 dci engine was brought in to appeal to fleet managers because of the lower running costs etc.

It's not a grand prix engine (neither is the Renault one in the back of the Red Bull!! ) but it does its job well. MKII Laguna's have always been a fickle car and the hope would be that the newer MKIII is isn't infested with its previous one's issues.

A good car, far better than the Laguna 2 but I would avoid the 1.5DCI.
2.0 far better engine

My instinct is to agree with the general sentiment that the engine is too small for the car. However we must remember that this engine was one of the first new generation of small capacity, high output engines and has 110 bhp.
Having said all that, we have a Laguna 111 in the family fleet and it has the 2 litre engine. It was new in March 2012 and so far, so good.

I did a CV boot on a rusty ML Merc last Friday. Lorry fitting would have been easier. F##k did I struggle with it!

Got speaking to a guy yesterday who bought one of these laguna's new in 2010. His opinion is its a fine car and has had no issues with it. He also remarked his daughter also has a nearly new Fluence which has been in and out of the garages regularly with all sorts of niggly faults.
