Hi All
2003 Xsara 1.6 auto has a strange fault . If you're braking just as you come to a stop the car will lurch forward as if you'd prodded the accelerator? Its not every time but it does do it fairly regularly? Anyone heard of this before or know what it might be?
Thanks

Sounds like a fault in the auto box rather than the engine, or maybe it's not a fault just the normal "creep" of an auto box. However, in case I'm wrong, have you noticed whether the revs increase when the fault occurs?

As above, it sounds like a torque convertor problem, I'm sure, but it would have been intrinsic to the design. Some Aisin boxes have done this in the 'States where the valve-switching is laggy from partial blockages (from having no oil filtration on the sump). First port of call would be to confirm the oil spec is correct, and fresh, then see how it pans out.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes it definitely revs to creep forward. Its my Mums car and she'd mentioned it doing it a few times and when I drove it it was exactly as if you'd inadvertently pushed the accelerator lightly. It doesnt take off like you'd floored but it has a very definite move forward. Its quite unnerving when it does it although it is controllable?
I dont know when the gearbox oil was last changed? But I do feel it also holds on to the gears a bit too long? So maybe it will benefit from an auto box oil change. I think its a "sealed box" as I couldn't find a transmission dipstick. So I dont think its something I can do for her. Is changing the auto box oil on one of these a specialist job or will her local Service & MOT Garage be able to do this?

I think you need to work out if it's a Gearbox fault or an accelerator fault.

My Mum is slightly worried by it in case it takes off and she cant stop it etc, which is understandable. We have a local specialist (Carnection) who has the Citroen software and I'l try and get her to book it in there for a scan and see what shows up, if anything. I'll report back...
