Has anyone got any experience of replacing these (5 of them)? I have got a local T5 with the AXD 2.5TDi engine which is due in to have these changed, but I'm struggling with a tight schedule for the next week, hence if the job is a so-and-so, I'd rather put it off for a week. AD reckons on the thick end of 2.5hours to do the five, and there might just be a good reason why that is!! Thanks in advance for any advice.

That works out at 1/2 hour each....Enjoy Yes, it's the "enjoying" bit that worries me. Bearing in mind that it's normal to be able to change the four glowplugs on, say, a Mitsubishi L200 in under 25mins, this makes me wonder exactly what the hitch is...snapped plugs that are hidden from view and/or releasing fluid comes to mind!

Thanks for the link. It turns out that the VW 2.5 AXD is quite an intertsting design. Nothing on glowplugs, but elsewhere in the forum there's a bit on the 4-cylinder version glowplug change, and that looks tight....

What's the reason for changing them?

The customer (who is a good Engineer, but is slightly disabled) has asked me if I can fit them for him. He has been reporting an increasing reluctance to start on cold mornings over the last 2-3 months. Apparently, so I'm told, there isn't a hint of any problem after the engine has run for a short while, although I have some doubts as to whether the diagnosis is 100% robust at this stage - I would like to have ruled-out air in the LP fuel system/failing in-tank pump, before committing the cost of a glowplug change. Given that the plugs are likely to be originals, on an '05 plate, then they are probably due a service all the same.

I hope you have voiced your concerns to him about the diagnosis.

What I intend to do, assuming that the bussbar is a bit tight to get to as well, is to do a current check on the relay before starting the job. I think that would be the fairest way of dealing with this, that way I can either soak the plugs overnight, hand the van back, or keep it for a bit longer to do a fuel system check.

I have a caravelle '06 2.5 TD PD 130bhp and only found them by mistake when changing the alternator.
The easiest way to do these is to strip the front end off as they are buried under the inlet manifold and can be tough to do due to oil and other dirt getting stuck around the plugs.
