Afternoon gents. Firstly, is this the old carmechanicsmag forum. I used to visit it but notice its dead now.
getting back to it, after much internnet searching im a bit stuck. Can anybody confirm if my late 2007 old shape mk 2 focus has a lower chain (crank to pump) or the dreaded wet belt in oil. Its the 1.8 tdci lynx engine. Cheers.

From the year it should have a chain Went to belt around 09/10

You maybe be able to see the chain/belt tensioner without stripping, it's not gospel but
Silver headed tensioner - belt
Black headed tensioner - chain

This has been my experience too
But of course this theory goes out the window if it's had s/h or recon engine fitted at some point

thanks for confirming its a chain Karl. Im going to tackle the top cam to pump belt soon. I replaced the same belt on my old focus tddi and still have the locking tools so hopefully should fit. I remember i didnt have to loosen the camshaft pulley on the tddi even though it was advised to in autodata, fitted no problems. Can i get away with leaving the cam pulley secured on the tdci to fit the new belt or not. Anything else i should look out for too.
