Spot on Karl B, much depends on tester, and if it's not broken don't try and fix it. Had a customer in today where he was told to change front pads on his transit,in test that is, there was easily 70% left on them, did as was told and gave him back the old pads. So inconsistent its painful, you just can't win.

No matter which garage/test station there will always be testers who are are bit to eager to fail..

I agree, it seems a lot of effort to go to, just to fix something that isn't there. If there are a few second-opinions on this, all saying there's no play, then it makes sense to re-test, and if it fails again, ask to see the data. As per other threads, I'm no fan of these wretched shaker plates, they seem nothing but trouble - "Computer says no......." I've just had to sort out a Disco3 that's been across one of these rigs; mechanically no problems, but lots of fiddly electrical problems springing-up.... " No matter which garage/test station there will always be testers who are are bit to eager to fail.." - Hmmm, yes, I learned that lesson well when I had an Allegro......

Thanks for all replies. Bearing was replaced in another garage and car has since passed but it is just generally annoying. The joys of motor trade!

Funny enough
Went and watched one of the peugeot techs change the rear axle bearings on a 2002 206 cc
Had a job to get the torsion bars out, once out found the bearing faces where too heavily pitted/corroded and then needed a new beam axle.
Job came in at around £1300
We both agreed it was never worth it

We both agreed it was never worth it Ouch. Then again, I'm always mindful of the electrical repairs on these for the same reason.
