It must be only me that gets half a million P & U codes caused by a dying battery the beginning of winter that prompts me to check the battery voltage on the scanner display before anything else.

Can wires , lives and earths , connector blocks , Does the rest of the cluster function ok ? Self test cluster should have a block for vehicle speed

Reminds me of similar faults with likes of older fiesta non start faults Some times the PCM can "forget" the keys You have to reboot the system And Was working on a ka for coolant leak, once repaired during road test discovered speedo inoperative Wasn't sure if it was faulty before or not ! After rechecking everything and going though wiring was about to bin the abs when phoned ford technical and said re initialise pats/cluster And all was well again !

I wonder if it's had a flat battery or been replaced whilst it was up for sale?

I wonder if it's had a flat battery or been replaced whilst it was up for sale? i did wonder if a mileage correction person might be involved in this fault. van has had all the abs sensors removed and refitted, looked like lots of people tried to fix it. best decision i made was to get the specialist in,i realised this morning that i just didnt have enough info or data on my scanner to do this job properly!! i couldnt even see vehicle speed in abs section just individual abs sensor speeds! i could see rd speed in pcm but it just was at zero all the time. i think a vehicle with no history presents a whole load of problems that have to be overcome. even this guy was telling us about the amount of faults he sorts out where fuses are missing, customers swearing blind that the light came on while they were driving etc he said he also gets blatent liers and added on faults!! one guy tried to tell me the car was working before i done his broken cambelt!that his wife was driving when it happend!! it was a brand new key with no wear on it at all!!!! i couldnt call him a lier but he/it didnt make sense!! so on a hunch i paid to get the transponder code from the dealers, reinitialised the key and broom broom the engine started!! now what do i do?

I've had a 04 Cmax a couple of weeks ago with no speedometer, p0500 present.
Turns out the car wasn't configured for either a VSS sensor or ABS speed signal. Datalogger would read all speed sensors.
I changed the configuration to ABS speed signal and she's fixed.
Maybe that's your fault. I dont know the reason to why the configuration was wrong, it was a traders car.
Who knows what someone's done with it!
