i've been offered one of these by a friend of the mrs. it has (according to the guy who has condemned it) "dropped a valve"
had a quick nosey underneath (the cam cover is already off) looks like it's got a broken rocker. other than that, can't see what the damage might be. it is a nice clean well looked after car until now.
how horrible are these little things to work on, and how and is the damage likely to be?

probably going to be cheaperer and less hassle to go down the replacement engine route then? Not neccesarily until you know the full extent of any damage.

The exhaust valve seats tend to sink into the head, not a bad job to do, it's certainty not worst engine to strip

Please reply to lee.barber@zonal.co.uk
Hi Nate, I've had to replace the floor pan and build the inner sill but the outer sill which I bought from Vw Heritage doesn't line up with the wing , the angle is wrong and will never be right to which I will have to modify the wing. Did you have this problem ?
Regards Lee

Did you buy a genuine vw sill or a klokkerholm one, and was it a rocco panel or mk1 golf?
I bought genuine rocco short sills, which are only the length of the door opening. The guy doing the work then fabricated a new outer sill section to go between the B pillar and the rear arch.
I'd suggest joining the scirocco register forum and posting your query in the bodywork section. There are some very knowledgeable types there, including the guy who did the bodywork on mine. He would be better placed to advise you than me. If you could post some pictures it would help too
