Was at McD's in the drive through and when i put the car into first gear the car started to go backwards , never experienced any, like this before , i turned the engine off and started it up again and it was ok , has this happened to anyone before ? and does anybody have any ideas which could have caused this ?

What car? What engine? What Gearbox? Also, what were you smoking at the time?

So you lifted the clutch and the car drove backwards (i.e. was going backwards under engine power)?

So you lifted the clutch and the car drove backwards (i.e. was going backwards under engine power)? yes In that case your anti reversing valve is probably stuck open. You'll find it under the ECU and can usually be freed off by judicious application of a herring

It could be therefore causing a restriction within the floogalbinder, they are cheap enough on ebay though.

Being serious for a moment, the only possible way this could have happened was if the engine had somehow started to run backwards. I've heard of it happening on old, knackered motorbikes with overly retarded ignition. What usually happened was that you'd go up a hill, the bike would stall, it would then start rolling back down the hill in gear and suddenly start powering back down the hill.
Though on a 207 there's no chance the ECU would allow the engine to run backwards.

Where is reverse gear on that car? Is it to the left and up (beside first) or is it to the right and down?
I suspect it's to the left and up, and you just put the car in the wrong gear. (Is your name Harry?)
