Had a bolt fall into the gearbox on my 53 plate fwd tranny. They didn't bother looking into the cause, it just got a new box. Still got the bolt on my desk somewhere

I got a feeling it may be a roll pin. I'd have to find TSB but I'm in Sunny Florida

Common fault on the MTX75, the bolt holds the selector to the shaft in the turret, as time goes by it works itself loose normally preventing you from getting 5th gear at first, if it comes loose whilst in 5th in can stop you getting out of gear effectively jamming it in 5th. When it eventually falls out it makes a hell of a mess as you have already found out. To prevent it you could remove the turret and thread lock the bolt in place, especially if you're experiencing selection problems, Ford were aware of the problem several years ago, but I don't know what they did to rectify it.
