2003 1.6 16v
Poor cold start. It either starts and stalls or idles all over the show almost misfire type.
Sometimes has smoke from exhaust and smells really rich.
Bloke has attempted to himself Fitted a throttle body Fitted coolant temp sensor.
Carried out a full service today and asked to take a look.
Looses comms with diagnostic (snap on) when trying to view data when it's running crap so can't see anything that side.
No fault codes stored.
Tried a known good map sensor no change. Disconnect vvt actuator and still same.
Once the revs stabilised managed to read data only thing that stood out was short term fuel trims in high minus numbers.
Any one seen anything like this?
Another mechanic has told me he's heard theirs a software update from renault anyone heard that?

I got a match and some oily rag..... Why would a s/w upgrade resolve this? Would it be worth trying another diag reader? Perhaps a Renault one.....

Seems a contradiction, high neg fuel trim indicates a leaner mix yes? but you say its running rich..... O2 sensor(s) ok? Air leak somewhere?

Visually checked wiring Contact cleaner on all sensors and ecu connections Basically on the of chance I found something

O2s are reading ok once it's running as say can't get comms when having a paddy The fuel trims are the only thing that stood out Tested for air leak with brake cleaner and non found It smells really rick when its playing up. I've only got the snap on scan tool

Was the throttle body new? if not Has the guy got the old throttle body to replace the replacement body ( start again) square one.
As mentioned get it on a Renault diagtool with someone who knows how to drive it, as for Snap on scanners, not the best so may not be giving you all the info you need.
When did the fault occur? or has it been a gradual decline?

It's been like this since he bought it Like say only had it a matter of weeks Fault was still their on other throttle that's why he had a go at changing

Are you looking at this through OBD or going through Renault side?
