Hello guys
Been asked to take a look at this it's coming in on Tuesday got a leak from box and wants box oil changing too
Having not touched one of these with this box wanted a heads up.
Does this require any type of special tool like vags do for changing box oil
Or is it straight forward
Cheers

Run away Lifetime fluid on these..Got to get the exact fluid..I'd buy it from BMW.. If the wrong type gets in there, it'll get clogged up and need a rebuild. No special tools as far as I know on this one. It should have a coloured tag on the box which relates to the fluid required.

If it's leaking there's little point in changing oil ?
Just quote for a new box £5000 should do it

Thanks mate
Do you know where the coloured tag should be roughly so can have a look
I rang local factors to price up oil
And it's just under 10 quid a litre plus vat Not sure what the bmw price is will ring on Monday and check.
Takes 9 litres but I assume I'm not going to get it all out either.
Maybe I shouldn't have said I'll look lol

That label on the gearbox is likely to be no help. It will probably say something like ATF-LT3. It is rumoured that Fuchs are the suppliers to the factory so I would seek out their recommended product. Start here: fuchs-eu.lubricantadvisor.com/default.aspx?Lang=eng

I have done several of these!
Oil from dealers was £97
Filter was expensive as well (gearbox sump and filter in one).
You will need scanner to check oil temp for level.
It does take a little longer than a VW DSG gearbox.
But all in all, not a bad job!
Beats having to guess which dip stick to use for a Merc gearbox oil change!
I too have seen lots of leaky 525, 530 and 535 gearboxes.

Bmw must of been pulling my plunger then Told me 21.76 plus per litre and only sold in 1 litre bottles Told me they don't list a filter Bastards

A few hundred spent on maintenance is far cheaper than a replacement unit

A few hundred spent on maintenance is far cheaper than a replacement unit I charge out fluid and filter changes at... VAG DSG £150 (plus maybe £8 for filler plug) BMW £280 Merc £280 However you look at the job, it will take you two hours! Some garages will also try and sell a customer a fluid change, if the gearbox has a fault! Trust me! No amount of new fluid will sort out a faulty Mechatronic unit (only huge amounts of money will correct this type of problem).
