Hello guys 57 plate ml320
Wondering if any of you have worked on this engine before?
It's my old mans car but he lives 120 odd miles away from me so not seen it. It was on a merc service plan that he purchased with the car.
It has glow plug light on And merc dealer have told him they investigated whilst it was in for its final service
It would need full set of glow plugs at cost £390 which would be parts and 4 hours labour
I've looked and auto data is saying 1 hour removal and install.
So are they pulling a fast one. Or is auto data telling porkies?
Don't want to agree to do them next time he's across visiting
To find its going to be a blo*dy big job

The glow plugs don't do anything to aid starting unless we're in minus figures on one of these.. Yes I have been unfortunate enough to do the job on one of these... I managed to change 3 out of 5! Number 4 wouldn't budge, and no5 is totally buried.. The can snap off very easily too.. That price is wild, even retail the plugs would be £15 each x 5.

Yeah I told him it means fault and merc have quoted him for glow plugs
Was going to check it again myself when he does come over Just wanted to be armed with wether it was worth doing or it's going to be a hassle.
Did you extract broken one or leave it?
Price seemed more than I was expecting 11.28 + vat

I disagree price sounds reasonable if it's parts and labor, i suspect they have just quoted you worse case.

I'm not sure if it was a 320 maybe a 280 V6 anyway. blo*dy thing has just a pop on cover but has stupid heat shields underneath that need to line up exactly or it won't go on had to take air intake pipe off and adjust it couple times May have just been a pain because who ever did job last time when it had its last service at dealer just forced on and the rubber insert for turbo was misshapen. Access to rear glow plugs wasn't too bad had to get a fairly long pair of pliers to pull plug off and and extension Because one side the turbo control motor sits just in front and other side is some plastic trim for various cables Not too bad to do once intake pipe is out way As say took longer getting cover and pipe to sit correctly than did to change the plugs
