Hi. Wonder if anyone could help me with a couple of problems I have with my 02 Nissan Primera.
First one is that when I brake, especially at low speeds the car makes a whaling noise, almost as if something needs to be lubricated. Funny thing is it sounds although it's coming from somewhere below the gearbox, possibly where front U joint is? It's definitely not pads or discs.
Second problem is that there is a rattling noise from the rear left hand side wheel area when I go over bumps or a cobbled road. On smooth roads there is no noise. It's like the noise a trailer makes when it's being towed and bouncing over bumps.
Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers.

It's difficult to give help over a forum... If your sure it's not the brakes
Then maybe check the intermediate driveshaft support bearing, if it has one
Gearbox oil level ?
Whine from transmission ?
Wheel bearing ?
Could be all sorts , can be really time consuming pin pointing a noise/rattle and sometimes have no option but to replace/substitute parts
If you have access to an steel-man chassis ear these can help, other times simply amplify the noise
Try jacking up the vehicle , if you can safely on axle stands and give the wheels a good shake/rock
The top mount or anti roll bar links need checking too

Thanks for suggestions guys. I took it in to my mechanic today. Turns out that it was indeed my brake pads. One of them was loose! Just shows you how wrong you can be when you know F all about cars. Thanks again.
