My 2010 ford focus 1.8 always makes a clunk when taking up drive in 1st gear and when changing up through the gears. I can stop the noise by slipping the clutch slightly. Any ideas. I have heard there is a tsb in relation to the driveshaft splines is this correct.
Are there any known faults with the esp on this model.

Petrol/diesel ?
There's fix for clunking noise on standing start
Would need a little more information on the clunking while driving
What's the fault with your esp ?

Hi,
Thanks for the replys. Dont think the car has been thrashed was purchased by myself with 18,000 miles with full ford service history from a ford dealer. Previous owners were over 50 so doubt it would have been thrashed by them. Its a zetec s with the 1.8 duratec he. I have driven another 1.8 and it also clonked on taking up drive and changing gear so I thought it was normal but it is really beginning to annoy me now as my old foci was nice and smooth.
The ESP does its self test at 15-20 mph and I get a noise from behind the dash which is normal. But it also makes the same noise on a left hand bend bump but I cant replicate it on a right hand bend which is odd. There are no warning lights or error messages showing.

I can sit in the car in 1st gear and lift the clutch to its biting point as it hits the bite in clunks and then again when changing from 1st to 2nd and then to 3rd. It can clunk if you lift off in 1st aswell but its doesnt do it every time. Will have to get a video uploaded if I can.

What's it like while driving normally
I can't hear the noise too well from that video, to me it sounds like a normal typical take up of drive.
If you want to investigate further possible causes could be engine mount/ lower stabiliser bar
Inner cv joints
Clutch/pressure plate
If it's not noise while driving I would be inclined to leave it

Yes your abs module will do a short self test just over 10 mph Sounds like the esp is just activated which is what it'll do if losing grip etc... Different tyres ?

How long have you had it ? And where abouts are you ? Maybe someone here could assess it for you
If I get the opportunity to check another 10 plate 1.8 focus I will try and record it and compare against yours

I am in stoke-on-trent i have heard that there is a tsb that involves putting glue on the driveshaft splines where it goes into the hub.
