Depends on the value of the car and the amount of damage sustained

Not the first Alfa that's happened to - I've recovered 2 for the same problem.
As for repairing it, probably depends what the roof damage is like

well he going to see what the insurance company say . Depends on the value of the Alfa against the cost of repairs. That depends on what the insurance company's repair to value ratio is?

When this sort of thing happened before, it would damage bonnet and hinges, smash windscreen and dent roof panel. As you've said it'll be a write off, unless he wants to pay to fix it himself

The magazine had a little piece a few years ago about how important it is to keep the bonnet catch greased (not on Alfas specifically) but when one of mine kept popping open it was because it was completely gummed up with old sticky grease. It needed some brake cleaner and a brush to free it up.

As he can't get another car as will have no funds to get one If he was paying his insurance monthly, then yes As above - Motor Insurance is an annual contract, if there is a claim on the first day that writes the vehicle off then the full annual premium is still payable. As many people don't know or like this, there is a strong risk that once paid for the car the monthly payments would be cancelled, so most Ins co's now cover themselves by deducting from the payment like this.
